Haven’t posted in a long while, things got really busy at my normal job.
Also news has been really slow for flying cars, more of the same, same. More Lilium partnerships, Joby, Archer, blah blah blah, noone cares.
But here’s some real news. We get an inside look at Alef’s progress on their flying car. I still can’t see how it’s going to fly, but…. more info at least!
This flying car project has to win over not just one, but two big-deal regulators: the FAA for flying and the NHTSA for driving. Tim Draper, a big-shot investor known for backing Tesla and SpaceX (and also, um, Theranos), is throwing his support behind Alef. He took a year to really dig into it before writing the check, wanting to ensure it wasn't just a solid business idea but also technically feasible.
You can already throw down a $150 deposit to call dibs on their Model A flying car when it finally hits the market. There are 3,000 folks ahead of you in line, though. Owning this unique vehicle will cost you $300,000. According to Dukhovny, that steep price is all about the intense labor and craftsmanship that goes into making one of these futuristic rides.
