EHang, the famous Chinese eVTOL air taxi manufacturer, has a price for its autonomous, two-seat EH216-S at approximately 2.39 million Chinese Yuan (around $330,000). Basically not affordable for anyone I know… but.. this pricing, effective from April 1, is notably lower than its competitors', with similar aircraft from other companies expected to cost millions. The EH216-S, the first eVTOL air taxi to receive type certification, has already been demonstrated in commercial flights with paying customers in China.
The aircraft is designed primarily for urban tourism and low-altitude sightseeing, capable of carrying two passengers or 485 pounds over a range of about 19 nautical miles at a speed of 62 mph. Tourism for the uber rich, folks! But as a taxi service, anyone could try it. Its unique design features a wingless structure with a coaxial dual-propeller system, differing from its competitors in capacity, range, and speed. The low price is initially for the Chinese market, with potential adjustments for international sales.
EHang has received type certification from China's Civil Aviation Authority and has begun commercial demonstration flights in cities like Guangzhou and Hefei. While facing some operational restrictions, these are expected to be gradually lifted. EHang is well-positioned for increased production with a fully operational facility in Yunfu, Guangdong Province, awaiting the necessary production certification to scale up its manufacturing. Seems like China is really competing to be the top in the eVTOL space. Competition is good, imo.
