Overair Butterfly - An Electric Air Taxi with impressive stats
will it have the butterfly effect on flying cars?
In the new realm of air taxis - we’ve got a bunch of companies jumping on the bandwagon (or airwagon in this case). Brace yourselves for yet another one - Overair's Butterfly. A full-scale prototype with rotors that stretch an impressive 20 feet. It's looks like it could be sci-fi, but it’s actually just an eVTOL.
Overair is looking to be the life of the eVTOL party. You know, you’ve heard the names before - big names like Joby and Archer. CEO Ben Tigner is not only hopeful but downright bullish about snagging FAA certification by 2027. He's eyeing commercial flights not long after. We’ll see. Eyes on the prize, guys.
The Butterfly itself isn't just another pretty face in the eVTOL crowd. It's got some serious tech with its Optimum Speed Tilt Rotor and Individual Blade Control. These are the secret sauce behind efficient, quiet, and reliable flights, no matter the weather.
And what about the specs (I’m totally a specs kind of guy) - a range of 100 miles, a top speed of 200 mph, and it's also gunning for the title of the quietest eVTOL out there. Stealthy and speedy? I’m ok with that.
After demoing in Santa Ana, the Butterfly is heading to Victorville for a bit of a more challenging test drive. Tackling all kinds of flight and weather scenarios - because if you're going to fly taxis, you better be ready for anything.
California isn’t the only place getting all the fun. Overair's got eyes on the global market, with Texas authorities going all in and South Korea already lining up for 20 of these vehicles. All this buzz is backed by a whopping $145 million investment. That's a whole lot of faith in a future where electric air-taxis might zip around like Uber in the skies.
Keep your eyes peeled for the Butterfly's journey. I know I will. Because, you know… It’s my job.
