Here’s something you don’t see every day. Chinese automaker maker Xpeng has come out with a far out new concept that combines off road driving, flying, charging, and camping. They are dubbing it the ”Land Aircraft Carrier” (LAC) can cover everything from mountain to ocean and the skies. Xpeng says it is for flying, commuting, and off-road.”
It could possibly be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Basically - this is the ULTIMATE adventure vehicle. Go anywhere, fly anywhere. camp anywhere. If Xpeng actually builds this, I’d sign up, even just to say that I signed up.
I’m still drooling. Yes, it looks identical to the Cybertruck with two added wheels in the middle, but it stores the eVTOL inside the truck bed (I’m guessing that’s why it needs the added wheel support). Also has some autonomous stuff built in, just as you’d expect. How the dismounting of the flying car part would work, and getting it back inside, well lets just say that would be a feat of engineering. (Hopefully not a feat for the user)
This must have a huge battery power station, because it’s actually able to charge the eVTOL inside the truck. You know where this could be perfectly used? Fly Fishing for Coho in Alaska. You scope out a good fishing spot on Google maps. You try to drive there, but the terrain is too rugged for wheels. No problem. Slide the eVTOL out the back and just fly the rest of the way to the fishing spot. Land far enough away from the river not to spook the fish, but close enough to scare the bears away.
The Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier concept is designed to tackle diverse terrains with its adjustable suspension system, allowing it to modify its ride height as needed. The eVTOL's controls can also be utilized to operate the truck, and vice versa. Additionally, the vehicle can be transformed into a camping van, complete with storage for foldable chairs, a tent, sunshades, and a picnic table.
Xpeng has revealed that the LAC is in the developmental phase, but they are committed to bringing the truck to the market. Aside from the details and images provided, Xpeng remains tight-lipped about other specifics. So maybe a gentle nudge or poke on social media will get them to spill the beans. Or not.
